Tips for Developing a Smooth New Hire On-boarding Process

by Oct 17, 2019

Bringing fresh talent into your workforce can be an extremely important part of growing your company’s capacity for success. However, creating a seamless onboarding process for those new hires can be easier said than done, especially if you aren’t sure how to increase the procedure’s efficiency. Below are a few actions you can take to help make your new hire onboarding process run more smoothly.

Practice active communication with new talent

Before your new hires arrive for their first day, make it a priority to maintain an engaged relationship with them from the time they’re offered the position. These employees-to-be may have a lot of questions leading up to their onboarding, so consider some of the topics that might come up in early conversations and be prepared to have detailed answers for them. The more information you’re able to provide before their onboarding process begins, the easier their transition into the company can be.

Automate aspects of the process

With modern advancements in business technology, not every step of the new hire onboarding process has to be completed manually. Human capital management tools can aid in the creation and automated maintenance of valuable digital resources, like talent profiles and career development plans, where new hire data can be aggregated and assessed throughout their onboarding process and their tenure with your company. By automating lower-level onboarding tasks, a significant amount of time and resources can be saved and allocated toward the human side of bringing new hires up to speed.

Establish a thorough training program

The best way to ensure your new hires are able to hit the ground running at the end of their onboarding process is to provide them with a comprehensive overview of their respective roles, the company’s expectations for proper task execution, and the company’s general operations and goals. Sit down with a team of department heads to develop a training program that will thoroughly immerse your new hires in the most important components of their positions so they’re well-prepared to become productive contributors to the company.

It’s also important to consider the schedule for your training program and assess when would be best to provide mandatory trainings alongside other facets of your new hires’ job training and company orientation. These employees are going to be absorbing a great deal of information in a relatively short period of time, so it’s wise to determine the ideal order for presenting that information where their ability to process and implement that new knowledge is concerned.

Partner with an HR consulting firm

The formation of your new hire onboarding process can sometimes be a little overwhelming, and it’s possible that some things could slip through the cracks. To ensure each part of the process’ development is completed correctly and given proper attention, it can be helpful to consider partnering with an HR consulting firm and delegating certain tasks to them.

HR consulting firms like us can assist their partner companies with projects like the development of optimized onboarding programs and new employee training. By building a partnership with such experienced professionals, you can ensure the final process is as effective and efficient as possible. Better yet, the combined effort put into creating smoother onboarding for your company can leave your new hires feeling well-informed and confident as they begin working in their new roles.
